Over the past couple days, I’ve talked to you about getting IDrive online backup for your family.

But I forgot to give you the HOW.

I realized I didn’t give you the process for how to get IDrive set up.
So here goes…
The IDrive package I recommend for most everyone is their Personal plan. It’s one user account over multiple devices.
That way, you only have one Username and Password to use on every computer and phone. (I love simplicity.)
Start with the computer that you want to back up the most. I say to do it this way because it’s easier to begin on a computer than a phone. (Again, simple is better)
On the order page this link takes you to, put in your email address and make up a dedicated password. You scroll on down to enter your credit card information.
Then it will ask you if it’s OK to download the program. Say ‘yes’.
It downloads quickly and puts an icon on your home screen. Click the IDrive icon and enter your Username and Password.
You are now ready to tell it what you do (and don’t) want to back up. I don’t back up every single app from my computer because it would be easy to reinstall those if I had to. The files you want to make sure to backup are photos, videos, and important documents.
Then start the backup.
Big warning: The initial backup may take days depending on how much data needs to be saved. I recommend doing one device at a time so it doesn’t interfere with your day-to-day internet usage.
Once the first device is backed up, follow the same process on the next device….
- Download the program
- Input the same Username and Password
- Choose the folders/files to back up
- Start the uploading.
- Then do the next device until you have them all backed up.
The cool thing is each device will have its own master folder on the IDrive program’s homepage. So it keeps the data separate.
There you go. You now know HOW to use IDrive to back up your family’s precious memories and documents to a secure online vault.
