We are expecting some strong winds and a possible tornado overnight here in Alabama. It got me thinking even more about the wisdom of having an off-site backup of all our electronic devices.
You’ve heard me recommend portable hard drives and even thumb drives for your data. Still believe in them.
But if an event like a tornado hits my house, those hard drives (and our computers) might get spread across 3 zip codes. So having a backup copy stored electronically a long way from my house is a definite plus.
It also got me thinking about the other things IDrive does that’s included in your subscription.
One nifty feature is called IDrive Express. They’ll send you a physical copy of your backup if something happens to one of your devices. Let’s say you did have a laptop crash. Instead of downloading everything onto a new laptop, IDrive would send you a storage device with the old laptop’s information.
The big plus is time. It takes a while for all the data to stream back to you. The storage device would let you put the info on the new laptop much quicker. Just note that they only do this for free once a year. Fingers crossed you never have to use it.
Another great feature is Access to files from the other devices you’ve backed up. Let’s say you are on vacation and need a file. But it’s on your desktop computer back home. No problem. Through IDrive, you can find the file in the desktop’s backup and download it to whatever device you have with you.
And just so you know that IDrive isn’t some fly-by-night operation, IDrive is an 11-time winner of PCMag Editor’s Choice Award. Consistently a top performer.
So if you haven’t already, click this link to get IDrive Personal for just $9.95 for the first year.
While you are doing that, I’ll be hunkered down watching the local weather report and hoping a Tornado Warning never materializes tonight.
Stay Safe, Have Fun,
Darren Bayne
