You’ve heard me talk about our dog, Sadie.

She’s a 10-year-old, 48-pound, caramel-colored Black Mouth Cur.  A breed that’s meant for hunting small game.

Sadie loves chasing squirrels, rabbits, and the occasional chipmunk.

She’s caught one squirrel and two chipmunks, but no rabbits…yet.

Her birthday is December 26th.  Well, that’s when WE celebrate it.  Because nobody knows her real birthday.

We are the third owner of Sadie.  We got her at Christmas-time 2016.  The vet guessed she was about two, so we pretend her birthday is the day after Christmas.

The previous owner loved Sadie.  Sadie lived with another dog and a cat in the owner’s house.

Life happens though…and Sadie’s second owner had to move into a smaller place.  And she could only take one dog and the cat with her.  The other dog was smaller so Sadie was odd dog out.

That’s how Sadie came to live with us.

But Sadie’s life didn’t start out well.  Nobody knows who her first owner was.  It’s probably a good thing (for him).

Why?

Sadie’s second owner found her cringing–-malnourished and scared–-near a trash bin behind a shopping mall.

Sadie is a hunting dog that doesn’t like loud noises.  And firing a gun makes a loud noise.

A hunting dog that is skittish around gunfire isn’t worth the money paid for her.

So Sadie was expendable to her first owner.

Sadie was hit on the side of her head with a blunt object when she was young.  She only has partial vision in one eye.

Somebody thought beating her with a bat or piece of rebar was the proper punishment for a gun-shy dog.

I wish that’s all it was.

So after beating her, her first owner shot her with a BB gun.

Sadie still has 3 BB’s lodged in different parts of her body.  One is near the top of her head.  You feel it every time you pet her.

Fortunately, they must not be painful because she has never flinched if we touch one.

Sadie came into this world and got abused.  Bad.

Thanks to her second owner and us, she now has a great life.

Why do I tell you this story?

Because keeping Sadie safe is the SECOND reason we got an alarm system.

The first reason is to keep the family safe from anyone breaking in without us knowing it.

Back to Sadie…you are thinking “How does an alarm system protect Sadie differently than the rest of the family?”

Sadie is the one member of the family who is inside the house most of the day and night.

When we leave to go to a restaurant, to the mall, or to church, Sadie is in the house all by her lonesome.  (Don’t worry, she sleeps while we are gone).

Bad guys breaking in isn’t my worry.  I’d rather she hide than try to protect an empty house.

My concern is a fire starting and she can’t get out.

And that’s where the right alarm system gives me peace of mind.

You see…our alarm system has smoke detectors that will trigger the main unit to call the fire department.  In the online portal, we’ve made a note that we have a dog named Sadie who is inside.

I trust my family and my dog to our SimpliSafe alarm system.  If you don’t already have an alarm system, I recommend you get one too.

If you click the link above, you’ll get 50% off your system.  Now that’s pretty much the same deal as anyone off the street.

But using that link will also get you a free indoor camera worth $100.  You can use it to keep an eye on your pet while you are out and about.

Sadie is as important to us as your pet is to you.  Don’t wait for something bad to happen to wish you’d installed an alarm system.

SimpliSafe makes it easy.

  • Just take their quiz to customize your system.
  • Get it shipped to you.
  • And install it.

Since it’s wireless, you can take it with you if you move.

I also highly recommend springing for the monthly monitoring.  That way, someone from SimpliSafe will contact the right emergency responders fast.

And you’ll know your pets are as safe as Sadie is.

Be Safe, Have Fun,

Darren Bayne
