I’ve carried something in my wallet since I was in my 20s. So three decades.
It’s not one thing. One gets used and I replace it with another. You’d be amazed how often it comes in handy.
What is it?
Band-Aids.
I started carrying them when, in the course of one week, I scraped my arm on a fence and a few days later I got frustrated with a hangnail and yanked on it. Both times, I started bleeding and didn’t have anything to stop it.
So I put three regular ole’ Band-Aids in my wallet.
And sure enough, every couple months, either I or someone with me needed one.
I looked like the hero.
Then Kaylee came along.
Kaylee is the daughter of our best friends. She’s our honorary third daughter.
Well, when our two families went to dinner when Kaylee was a toddler, she got some sort of boo-boo that needed a band-aid. And she started tearing up like a kid does.
I had one.
Her mom kissed the boo-boo and put the band-aid on it. Kaylee turned back into her happy little self.
Problem solved. Score one for Mr. Darren.
The next weekend, our two families go out to dinner again. This time, Kaylee manufactured a pretend boo-boo and asked for a band-aid.
So I gave her one.
And so began an almost 2-year streak of me supplying her with band-aids. She treated them more like stickers than bandages.
But not long after this started, I switched from regular old band-aids to something fun. She went through Barbie, and Blue’s Clues, and Disney Princesses.
It was fun looking for different ones in the store.
Of course, when I gave one to an adult that needed one, I got some strange looks.
No worries.
So that’s my recommendation of the evening…
Always carry band-aids in your wallet or handbag.
I’ll even give you a link to the ones I’m rocking now.
Bluey Kids Bandages are my go-to now. Even though Kaylee is old enough to drive, she still asks me for one every now and then. And I can’t spoil the streak.
So grab you something fun to protect a cut from getting infected.
Just know it may turn into a playful addiction.
Be Safe, Have Fun,
Darren Bayne
