If you took me up on my offer yesterday and downloaded my “Stock Your Treasure Chest” checklist of money documents you should collect, you may have noticed my comment about Cash.
Didn’t grab it yesterday? Well get it now so what I’m saying makes sense.
Anyway…
Under ‘Cash’, I said “Two weeks of living expenses: some 100s, no 50s, mostly 20s, 10s, and 1s”.
Why “no 50s”?
Fifty dollar bills are the toughest bills to spend around town.
Mostly because they are more counterfeitable. (Is that even a word?)
Next time you are out and about, look for signs talking about what cash is (and is not) accepted. Fifties and hundreds are the most likely culprits.
I still like 100s because it allows you to carry more dollars in a smaller space.
And if a big crisis happens, those Benjamin Franklins look awfully pretty.
So figure out what two weeks of living expenses are and start putting that together in cash.
It will make you sleep better at night.
